Carmel Racquet Club is the official site of the December 23, 2017, Donut 5K—The Sweetest Run in Indiana! The start/finish line will be in CRC west side parking lot. Six indoor courts will be used from 6 am-noon for the player packet pickup, vendor exhibits, and CRC pickleball and tennis demonstrations. A DJ, food and drink will add to the festive atmosphere.
According to Todd Oliver, owner of Carmel Road Racing Group, the Donut 5K is now the second largest annual 5K in Carmel. With a partnership from Jack’s Donuts of Carmel, the holiday 5K offers something for everyone. A cash purse, age group awards and of course donuts for all; 7,500 donut holes in 2015. The event is one of the few events that allows dogs during the run/walk. The 5K benefits the Humane Society of Hamilton County. Todd predicts 1400 runners.
The Donut 5K has been awarded the Road Runners Club of America 5K State Championship. The Road Runners Club of America is the largest running association in the US. Age group awards are provided along with a cash purse to the top three male and female finishers. To indicate the competition level this fun race attracts, the top two male and female finishers in 2015 all made the Olympic Qualifying standards and the male winner competed for the British Olympic team in Brazil. The 2016 race was cancelled the morning of the race because of dangerous icy conditions.
