Pittmans Win National Championship

Steve and Ellie Pittman
2018 Father/Daughter USTA National Indoor Champions

Steve and Ellie Pittman won the USTA Father/Daughter National Indoor championship in Barrington, IL March 11. This is their first gold ball.

Steve was a nationally ranked junior and played on Carmel High School first two boys state championship teams (1980-1981 and 1981-1982 ). Last spring Steve and John Moorin won the 50 men’s division in the Midwest Senior Team Championships in Lansing, MI. Recently, he and CRC pro Mark Woldmoe won the Midwest Level 1 50 men’s division.

Ellie is a freshman playing varsity tennis at Cathedral High School and is nationally ranked in 16 girls.

Their road to victory was not easy.
Pittmans beat the first seed 6-2 6-4. The daughter could out hit Steve from the baseline and the dad was a great volleyer. Ellie held her own against the daughter.

Pittmans played a father daughter team where the girl is emerging as one of the better 18 and under in USTA Midwest and the dad was a former Northwestern tennis player. Pittmans won 6-0 6-4.

Their opponents were a father and daughter who had both played for Oklahoma. The daughter graduated last May. The father also played Davis Cup for Greece. Pittmans were up 4-1 in the second set and their opponents got it back to 4-3. At 4-3 they had about a 20 minute game that Pittmans won and probably determined the match.  Pittmans won 6-2 6-3.
